In 2007 the General Assembly of the United Nations, with an overwhelming majority of votes, adopted the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Declaration was 22 years in the making. Its purpose is to set an important standard for the treatment of indigenous peoples and act as a tool in eliminating human rights violations and discrimination against indigenous populations worldwide. This important document has both been hailed as a milestone and caused considerable concern amongst critics of UN global governance measures. With the same insight that he brought to the illustrated Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Michel Streich's simple yet moving illustrations add powerful resonance to this highly topical and controversial issue
