If you decide to read this book, you will learn of a young girl named Deneque. My mother. (Though, this book is not for young girls). It does not take long to figure that out. If you can't finish this book, that's fine. It's expected. If you do, congratulations and you hold my deepest sympathy. Being a young girl growing up in the harsh city of New York in the 80s is dangerous. Bullies, child molesters, and murders are hard to avoid while the only thing you're trying to do is survive. Know that what you are going through, can get worse.
