In Letters of Fire

The men of the Thirteenth West Virginia Infantry again fought with extraordinary grit in this, their last fight, the battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia. The strength and resilience of the human heart is as much the subject of this volume as their last battle and their last months of service. There are the stories of the wounded and prisoners of war and the women and men who attended them and worked tirelessly to make them whole. There are stories of 'high times' and mischief and the comely lasses of Maryland but there is also evidence of maturity born of intense experience and joy in the prospect of doing simple things and living in peace.
