Pipes and Smoking Customs of the American Aborigines

Originally published as part of the Smithsonian Institution report for 1899, the first studies for this book were made from the rich collections in the U. S. National Museum, but as the material grew pipes contained in other public museums and private collections was added, and the research included an extensive correspondence with many persons interested in the subject.
