Prince Carrick has deceived and betrayed his people to become Emperor of Seracedar Kingdom. Meanwhile, after escaping Cedar Palace, Rilla and her boyfriend Aiden have returned to Emberwood Kingdom, where they find sanctuary under the rule of Aiden's parents, King and Queen of the Embers. Heartbroken to learn their former friend Carrick has sworn to destroy them, they must find a way to defeat him. When Carrick initiates war on Emberwood, the stakes rise. Fortunately, Old Grandfather Heaven has bestowed upon Rilla and Aiden the Sacred Cedar Scepter, which amplifies their magical abilities. As long as they work together as they always have, they can't fail. However, Rilla discovers someone else might be using the war with Carrick for their own ulterior motives. Now, she faces an enemy far stronger than any she's fought before. Only this time, she fears even her voice might not be powerful enough to stop them.
